FAQ

What is a desiccant dehumidifier?

A desiccant dehumidifier is a type of dehumidifier that removes moisture from the air by using an adsorbing material like silica gel instead of a condensation type compressor dehumidifier. A desiccant dehumidifier is also known as adsorption dehumidifier for using an adsorbing silica gel rotor.

A desiccant dehumidifier works by pulling the air from one of its inlets called the process air inlet and passes it over a hygroscopic water adsorbing material such as silica gel which sticks to water molecules and traps it. This silica gel is arranged in a honeycomb-like structure as a rotor in a desiccant dehumidifier. After the air passes through the silica rotor, it becomes dry and is recirculated back to the area where drying is needed through one of its outlets called Process Air Outlet.

This silica gel rotor also needs to be dried as it has a limited water holding capacity. So again air is pulled from an inlet called Regeneration Inlet, it is then passed over a heater to make it hot and then blown through the silica rotor to take away all the accumulated water molecules. After the air has passed through the rotor, it is hot and very moist – it is then exhausted using an outlet called Regeneration Outlet. That’s how a desiccant dehumidifier dries the air while regenerating continuously its silica rotor.

The sizing of the desiccant dehumidifier requires precise calculation based on the room size, existing temperature, existing humidity, target temperature, infiltration, insulation level, no. of door opening and target humidity. These calculations can be complex and error in calculation can lead to not reaching the desired target humidity levels.

A desiccant dehumidifier is a specialized machine designed for low temperatures below +15°C to -30°C. Also, it is capable of reducing humidity below 40% RH unlike traditional condensation type compressor(refrigerant) dehumidifiers. So if your requirements are any of the above, you should buy a desiccant dehumidifier.

NO, they do not need to be emptied. They exhaust the moisture out during the rotor regeneration process through a regeneration outlet.

A home dehumidifier is a simple plug and play machine. Simply connect the dehumidifier for rated power of 220V/50hz for UAE, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait or 220V/60Hz for Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Simply keep the dehumidifier in room and turn it ON. The water will collect in the water tank or you can directly drain the water using a drain pipe to a nearby drain.

A whole house dehumidifier is a condensation type refrigerant dehumidifier that works by pulling the air inside, then condensing into drops of water and collecting in a water tank or directly draining to a nearby drain point.

If you live in a humid city like Dubai or a country like the United Arab Emirates, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain or Kuwait – home dehumidifier is totally worth it. Ambient humidity in aforementioned countries can go up to 80% RH in peak summer – this high humidity is damaging to your health and to your property. So to keep your property, yourself, your kids and your loved ones safe with optimal breathing air – buy a dehumidifier right away and it’s worth it.

A condensation type refrigerant dehumidifier is best for home use. Its low noise and is quite cheap as compared to desiccant dehumidifier.

Your house needs a dehumidifier if you notice moisture on your property, mold, mildew and bacterial growth. Also, if you start noticing foul damp odor or a musky smell you need a dehumidifier. For some people, sudden allergies may start showing up but then you need a 2 in 1 Dehumidifier with Air Purifier. We have it available with us.

The ideal humidity for an indoor swimming pool is between 40% RH to 60% RH. Anything above 60% RH for an indoor swimming pool can wreak havoc on the entire house with mold, mildew and bacterial growth. Houses or apartment buildings with Central air conditioning are at more risk as the return duct takes the moist air and feeds it to all rooms or apartments in addition to the fixing of fresh outside humid air to the AHU.

A swimming pool dehumidifier removes moisture present in the air and is designed to especially target the additional load from the water vapor evaporated from the swimming pool itself. The evaporation from swimming pools can be massive in countries with hot summers such as the United Arab Emirates, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain. Using. A swimming pool dehumidifier is a must have for your indoor swimming pool room.

What are the disadvantages of a desiccant dehumidifier?

There are only two disadvantages to a desiccant dehumidifier – one is the silica rotor life which is typically between 7 to 10 years and second is the heat load in the dry air which can be

There is no better or worse between compressor or desiccant dehumidifier as they were designed for two different purposes. A compressor dehumidifier also known as condensation dehumidifier was designed for working in temperatures of +15°C to +40°C and to achieve humidity of 40% RH and above. This made it more suitable for HVAC applications for commercial and residential use cases.

A desiccant dehumidifier on the other hand was designed to perform below +15°C till -30°C and achieve low humidity below 40%RH. That made them suitable for cold rooms and processing facilities or in a nutshell industrial use cases.

YES, they do give off heat as they have a powerful heater inside to make the air hot for regenerating the silica rotor. So the dry air that comes out of the rotor is also hotter than what it took for drying, sometimes as much as +12°C higher.

YES, a desiccant dehumidifier is the best choice for a cold room. You can contact us also for sizing calculations, we do not charge for helping customers to select the best dehumidifier for their needs.

Yes, you do need a dehumidifier in room. Places with high ambient humidity need them whether you have air conditioning or not.

The electrical consumption in a dehumidifier is subject to its dehumidifying capacity, bigger capacities consume more electricity. For example: our 12 Liter per day dehumidifier consumes only 155W per watt-hour – which is 4.6% of a 2 ton split AC that consumes 3300 W per watt-hour.

Also, it does not run all the time – lets say if you set your dehumidifier in room at 50% RH – it works only till it reaches 50% RH and then turns off the compressor, with only the fan working resulting in much higher savings. It will only restart if the humidity goes above 55%RH, control and turn off again.

You can keep the dehumidifier in any room where you wish the drying effect to happen. Make sure windows and doors are closed. If you wish to drain the water using a condensate hose, keep it where a nearby drain point is available.

Most home dehumidifiers including ours have information specifying how much area it can cover. Measure your room area (m2) or room volume(m3) and compare it to our dehumidifier model matching or exceeding it.
